More Information/FAQ's about the ALYA programmes:

KS1 AYLA

  • Most often taught with a whole class or year group, in curriculum time. 
  • Can be taught at any point in the school year.
  • There are approx. 16 hours of taught sessions + time for a community action project. 
  • There is guidance on community projects that can be socially distanced.
  • Pupils receive a ‘Young Leader Passport’, stickers and a certificate.
  • Cost: we operate using a learner box system. Our small box is for 15 learners and is £180 +VAT. Our Medium box is for 25 learners and is £300+ VAT and our large boxes are for 35 learners and are £420 +VAT. The boxes can be purchased in any combination to match your learner numbers

KS2 AYLA

  • Most often taught with a whole class or year group, in curriculum time. 
  • Can be taught at any point in the school year.
  • There are approx. 16 hours of taught sessions plus time for personal challenges (Archie’s Challenge Grid), school-based projects and a community action project. 
  • There is guidance on community projects, including an Action Projects Teachers Guide
  • Pupils receive a ‘Young Leader Scrapbook’, pencil, pin badge and a certificate.
  • Cost: we operate using a learner box system. Our small box is for 15 learners and is £180 +VAT. Our Medium box is for 25 learners and is £300+ VAT and our large boxes are for 35 learners and are £420 +VAT. The boxes can be purchased in any combination to match your learner numbers

KS3

  • Typically, KS3 is run with Y7 or Y8 over 1 year.
  • Often taught with a whole year group, in curriculum time- this varies between schools. 
  • Most deliver through RE, some through citizenship or PSHE- some as a combination, which can include form tutors supporting the volunteering aspect of the Award. 
  • You’ll see there are 21 hours of taught sessions + the volunteering.  There is guidance on projects that can be socially distanced.
  • Some schools run from September to the summer at an hour a week- adding in their own sessions as they go along. 
  • Some run from Jan to the summer.
  • Cost £12 per learner- students receive certificate and badge after assessment process (see Teachers’ guide).

 

KS4/Post 16

  • The full course is 70 hours, and the short course is 39 hours. 
  • The Awards are designed to be flexible and run over different year groups:
  • Some schools run the full course Y9 and Y10, some Y10 and Y11 as it was originally designed to finish the Easter of Y11, some Y12, Y13.
  • Some schools do the short course for a year in either Y9,10 or 12 at an hour a week, some do this over 2 years at an hour a fortnight.
  • Some schools run it with the full year group in Enrichment or PSHE time.
  • some schools run it with just one class as an option block.
  • some schools run it with a group of 20 as an after-school club.
  • Cost: Short course £19 per learner/Full course £29. All teacher planning and student resources are provided, and students receive a certificate and badge upon completion.
  • There is an action project at the end of each Module. Ideas for these are included, as well as an Action Project Teacher Guide for additional support.
